20100921 – Cairo, Egypt –
Central Security protest police work in waves to surround the protesters and then crush in, or patiently wait until the protesters are ready to leave.
Protesters chanted against Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak and the possible succession of his son Gamal to the presidency. They stood outside Abdeen Palace and made references to the 1882 uprising, when Ahmed Orabi declared that Egyptians should no longer be slaves. The protesters were split into two groups surrounded by riot police and the street was further cordoned off by street police who kept bystanders and others who wanted to join at a distance. A few opposition leaders, including Ayman Nour were present.
