Egypt Uprising
A protest on January 25th snowballed into the removal of Hosni Mubarak from the presidency of Egypt. This edit of photos shows my interpretation of the events as I worked for The Guardian and The Wall Street Journal during the revolution. Tanta Mawlid, The Festival of Seyyid Badawi
The festival of Seyyid Badawi (Ahmad al-Badawi) is one of the largest annual gatherings in Egypt, drawing pilgrims from throughout the Middle East and doubling the size of the town, located in the Nile delta. Night Politics of Egypt
Lately I also photographed the Egyptian parliamentary elections. Egypt is a country that comes alive after the sun sets and heat dissipates. The Chinese government is trying to cement its hold on the resource rich Xinjiang by suppressing cultural and religious differences in schools and workplaces and by resettling millions of [...]
Exploring Sudan
Most of the news from Sudan is about the outlying provinces, Darfur, and the south, but the new Sudan can be seen in Khartoum. I traveled to Sudan for two months, making connections and exploring the story of Chinese money and influence in the country. In the end I felt those photos weren’t strong enough [...]
Barrios of Sonora, TX
My assignment was a scene setting essay on two Hispanic barrios, relics of a segregated past. In 2006 14 WKU students created a week long workshop to document life in a unique part of our country. For the first year we worked with the people of Sonora Texas to show the life of a border [...]
