- Protesters gathered in Tahrir square today for Friday prayer followed by a day of mostly anti-referendum rhetoric. Tomorrow will be an important vote for or against proposed changes to Egypt’s constitution. During the prayer the religious leader made an impassioned call to support the proposed amendments but was followed by a day of chanting and signs asking to write a completely new constitution.
After a few weeks in Libya I am relieved and refreshed to return to Egypt to recharge. Like almost all fridays since the revolution has started there was a protest in Tahrir square. With the constitutional referendum being voted on tomorrow I was expecting a significant crowd in support or opposition. To my suprise it was the smallest gathering I have ever seen in Tahrir and lacked a certain vitality by the time the sun was setting.
