I use a pretty simple camera system, but when I need something special I really need it, and I need it fast, so I’ve compiled this list of places to buy and sell cameras in Cairo.
It can be easy to find the low-end and mid-range equipment in the small import shops scattered around the city, but specialty and professional cameras, lenses, and lighting can be hard to buy at any price.

But my favorite store is right beside the Synagogue in Downtown Cairo Run by Ali Khalid. 19B Aadly Street, Apartment 58, 2nd Floor.
He is an old man who comes from Port Said Mon-Thursday only. Opens 10am till about 7pm but closed 2-4 for lunch. It is a shop full of old used film cameras and a good selection of lighting equipment and bags

“Camera Shop” is my new favorite in downtown Cairo. They have a lot of the newest equipment and seem to be specializing in DSLR video production

“King Camera” used to be the big store in town. They seem to specialize in supplying Cairo’s low end wedding photographers though. There is a slightly smaller camera store on the first floor.

Shams is a good place for basic lighting and reflectors, bags and such. They sometimes have interesting used equipment also.
